Planview Leverages AWS: Enhancing Security, Scalability, and Innovation

Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), once said, “Dance like nobody is watching. Encrypt like everyone is.” The company’s commitment to security is just one of the reasons AWS is Planview’s preferred public cloud provider.

Using the AWS global cloud infrastructure and services, we have the computing power, high availability, and flexibility needed to host and advance our connected platform of solutions.

As Planview CEO Razat Gaurav explains, “AWS provides us with the reliable foundation and agility we need to continue to drive innovation, scale our global operations, and quickly, securely, and efficiently serve as the backbone for our connected platform that supports both our organization and our customers.’”

From a customer perspective, Razat continues, “With the power of AWS, we will continue to help our growing customers connect their ideas to impact, across projects and products, and deliver positive outcomes – especially in times of change.”

Planview will also continue to provide first-class customer service and become even more responsive to the needs of our 2.6 million users worldwide. We have several products already built on AWS, including Planview® Portfolios, Hub, Viz, and AgilePlace.

Planview Joins AWS ISV Accelerate Program

Additionally, Planview is now part of the AWS Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Accelerate Program, which helps AWS Partners that provide software solutions that run on or integrate with AWS drive new business and accelerate sales cycles by connecting the participating ISVs with the AWS Sales organization.

The AWS ISV Accelerate Program provides Planview with co-sell support and benefits to meet customer needs through collaboration with the AWS field sellers globally. Co-selling provides better customer outcomes and assures mutual commitment from AWS and its Partners.

We’ve already experienced tremendous benefits from this relationship and know there are more to come.

Global Healthcare and Industrial Manufacturers Transform Operations

As mentioned, AWS is now hosting Portfolios for Planview customers worldwide, including Fresenius Medical Care and The Veissmann Group. The following examples show how Planview solutions are helping to streamline and standardize global operations for two manufacturers.

Fresenius Medical Care: Streamlining Portfolio and Work Management

Fresenius Medical Care provides products and services for individuals with renal diseases. Based in Germany, the company operates 42 production sites on all continents to manufacture products such as dialysis machines, dialyzers, and related disposables. Fresenius Medical Care also provides dialysis treatments for approximately 345,000 patients through its network of 4,116 dialysis clinics worldwide.

Fast growth and expansion led to a mishmash of processes and tools across Fresenius Medical Care’s global manufacturing operations. Regional teams used different work methodologies such as Agile, waterfall, and Lean Six Sigma. Also, project managers had varying experience and skill levels, and silos existed between departments.

These circumstances made managing the global product portfolio a challenge. Lack of standardized processes – as well as not having a central hub for project and portfolio management – limited visibility and collaboration at all levels.

Fresenius leadership issued a mandate to transform how the company works and collaborates globally. The manufacturing group chose Planview Portfolios and Planview ProjectPlace as the cloud-based solution to streamline global business processes, enable worldwide collaboration, and drive transparency and visibility.

The combination is flexible enough to accommodate diverse methodologies and varying levels of project complexity. Integrating Portfolios with the project work delivery capabilities of ProjectPlace provides a standardized framework for project execution.

Teams can still use their work methodologies of choice while planning and collaborating in a complimentary product, ProjectPlace. Data from ProjectPlace feeds into Portfolios for enterprise-level visibility and planning.

Today, Planview’s platform is enabling Fresenius to reduce complexity, streamline and integrate existing tools and systems, increase collaboration, and standardize reporting across project types and work methodologies. A complete overview of ongoing projects helps leadership make data-driven decisions.

The director of operational excellence for Fresenius noted, “My organization was tasked not with rolling out a system but with changing the way we worked. And we leveraged Planview to help us do that.”

The Veissmann Group: Optimizing Global Product Development

Based in Allendorf, Germany, the Viessmann Group manufactures heating, cooling, and renewable energy systems. Founded in 1917, the company has 14,500 employees, 22 production companies in twelve countries, and locations in 74 countries.

With such a large, global operation, the Viessmann Group needed a better overview of its product lines. More transparency into ongoing projects and processes, especially across company divisions, would help improve performance, enhance customer service, and grow the business.

In particular, the company wanted more sophisticated capabilities to:

  • Prioritize the most crucial product development projects;
  • Identify dependencies across projects and divisions;
  • Plan resources more efficiently, and;
  • Visualize project progress easily.

A cross-departmental effort determined that only a cloud solution could support the company’s project and resource management requirements. The solution had to be robust enough to handle the company’s worldwide operations. Other criteria were global access to the product, ease of use, and interfaces to SAP and other business-critical applications.

The Viessmann Group soon introduced Planview Portfolios as its company-wide solution for portfolio and project management. With one central, cloud-based PPM system – and standardized processes – the organization has greater visibility into projects, resources, progress, and dependencies. Managers and teams can plan, collaborate, execute, and report efficiently across product lines, divisions, and countries.

In addition, with Planview Portfolios’ real-time data and analytics, executives and staff at all levels can log in at will to view project status and other key performance indicators.

Viessmann’s Head of PPM for IT said, “Reliable resource planning, in particular, has given us a boost in quality, and the greater the analytical capabilities become, the better we can forecast and plan.”
