Building Tomorrow’s Leaders: Inside Planview’s Early Career Programs

Every successful journey has a beginning.

At Planview, our early career programs are more than just a starting point; they are the foundation where talent meets opportunity to create real-world impact. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and innovative projects, we empower the next generation of leaders to make their mark on every team.

It was the people at Planview who made me want to stay after my internship. Technical skills can be learned, and products can be studied, but genuine interpersonal relationships — especially at work — are rare.

Joselyn, Product Marketing Specialist

This vision comes to life through three distinct programs:

  • Summer internships for students
  • Eight-month co-op terms for co-op students
  • Full-time fresher positions for entry-level professionals

Each program provides hands-on experience with emerging technologies and business strategies, while offering personalized mentorship to guide professional growth.

At Planview, we believe in the power of connection. Throughout the year, our early talent comes together through events that unite diverse perspectives and inspire collaboration. From virtual networking and technical workshops to team bonding, these shared moments create lasting relationships across our global offices, fueling our culture and innovation.

Leadership Insights from Planview CPO Louise Allen

Throughout the program, our co-op students and interns have weekly opportunities to connect directly, either face-to-face or virtually, with Planview’s executive leadership team. These interactions showcase the journey and mentorship of Planview’s innovative leaders and help individuals envision their own career possibilities within or outside of Planview.

Think about glass and plastic balls. Which ones can you drop? It’s all about prioritization.

Louise Allen, Chief Product Officer at Planview

During her session, Louise Allen, Planview’s Chief Product Officer, shared valuable insights about personal and career growth, evolving alongside the changing world, and work-life balance, face-to-face with our Austin interns and virtually with our co-op students in Vancouver.

Drawing from her own experiences, Louise offered practical wisdom on navigating career challenges and embracing growth opportunities. Additionally, her Q&A session opened the floor to discussions about company vision and personal growth, creating meaningful conversations and demonstrating Planview’s commitment to developing future leaders.

Strengthening Teams Through Shared Adventures

While leadership insights are crucial to our program, we believe in balancing professional development with engaging team activities to foster meaningful connections.

Our Austin interns experienced this firsthand during an office-wide scavenger hunt. Paired with their office “buddies” — experienced mentors who provide field-specific support – they solved riddles, discovered unique office gems, and raced to explore our workspace in a whole new way. Beyond the fun and laughs, the event created opportunities for teamwork, problem-solving, and deeper connections across departments.

This spirit of collaboration extends into our community work as interns prepare for their next initiative, a back-to-school supply drive supporting the Rainbow Room and Central Texas Children connected with child protective services.

Through these varied experiences, our early talent program creates well-rounded professionals who understand the importance of career growth and community impact.

Meet Our Interns, Freshers, and Co-ops

These events are just part of what makes the Planview experience unique. Beyond creating connections, our early talent brings innovation to life through fresh perspectives and creative solutions. Their impact resonates across our global operations, from transforming customer experiences to developing advanced technologies. Their stories best showcase the growth and impact possible here. From Austin to Bangalore, meet the minds shaping our future:

Kyle | Accounting Intern | Austin, TX

Can you describe what a day as an Accounting Intern at Planview involves?

“As an Accounting Intern at Planview, one of my main responsibilities is managing the company’s five primary cash accounts and an investment account. Each day, I review the balances to ensure there’s enough cash to support our daily operations. This includes payroll, vendor payments, and other expenses.

I transfer any excess cash into the investment account so that we can maximize returns on idle funds. In addition to this work, I am also given many different mini projects that help to support various teams, such as Accounts Payable, Tax/Treasury, and Payroll.

What unexpected skills have you developed during your time at Planview?

“One of the biggest surprises for me was how quickly I had to get up to speed with the accounting software used here. The format was super different from what I was used to working with, so there was definitely a learning curve for the work they assigned me.

I would usually say, ‘If our accounting software and Excel aren’t pulled up on my computer, then I’m probably doing something wrong lol.’ Through my work, I’ve also picked up some Excel tricks along the way to help with reconciliations and data analysis.”

Ayush | Managed Services Consultant I | Bangalore, India

What types of projects have you worked on, and what has been your biggest learning from them?

“As part of the Managed Services team, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with customers, which has helped me improve my communication and problem-solving skills. I also gained hands-on experience with tools like Planview Portfolios and learned various aspects of project and portfolio management, including Agile methodologies and best practices.”

How has this experience influenced your career aspirations?

“This experience has really helped shape my interest in techno-functional roles and strengthened my understanding of how projects are managed in real-world environments.”

Raghad | Software Engineer I | Vancouver, BC

What’s your favorite way Planview brings people together?

“This is very team-specific, but what I really love about my team, Viz Vision, is how much we prioritize collaboration, both online and in person. We make an effort to come together at least once a week in the office to work together, and afterwards, we usually grab lunch to wind down and connect beyond just work. These small moments have helped us build stronger relationships and create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Another thing I really appreciate is how open everyone is to helping each other out. Even when we’re busy with our own tasks, people still make the time to answer questions, jump on calls, or pair programs to tackle problems together. That openness makes a huge difference, especially for someone like me who’s early in their career. It makes learning and growing here feel natural because I know I’m surrounded by people who want to see each other succeed. Overall, it feels like we’re not just coworkers but genuinely part of a team that cares about each other’s success and well-being, and I think that’s pretty rare to find in the tech industry.”

Which Planview event has been your favorite so far, and why?

“My favorite event so far has to be the lawn bowling event. None of us had ever played lawn bowling before, so it was a completely new experience for everyone. It was such a nice break during work hours to spend time with the team, share some laughs, and see everyone’s competitive side come out in a fun way. Moments like that really remind me how lucky I am to be part of a team that knows how to work hard but also takes time to connect and have fun. It was definitely an experience for the books and one of those days that made me feel grateful to be at Planview.”

Mentors Share Their Perspectives

Our early talent program combines fresh perspectives with experienced guidance. Each intern partners with a mentor or “office buddy” in their field, providing direct access to support and professional development. These collaborations help navigate real challenges while creating opportunities for meaningful growth.

Harrison | Data Scientist I | Intern Mentor

“The fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are rapidly evolving, and I’ve been impressed by Sami’s ability to keep up with the pace of innovation. In just a short time, he’s applied his math and coding background to learn about and contribute to cutting-edge AI systems. He’s gained both technical skills and confidence, capably presenting his work to cross-functional teams.

For my part, mentoring Sami brings me the same joy I got from teaching math in grad school: I find satisfaction in breaking down technical concepts and helping learners build their understanding. I was thrilled to find out that Sami is applying what he’s learned about AI systems to personal projects outside the office. It’s so rewarding for me to watch someone’s excitement for the field take root and flourish.”

Joselyn | Product Marketing Specialist | Intern Mentor

“I think my internship at Planview was really significant in shaping my career path. I joined as a Customer Advocacy Marketing Intern under James in the summer of 2024, and from the beginning, I felt like both of our expectations were aligned: doing a good job, learning new skills, and making meaningful connections.

Having a manager who encouraged my growth throughout the summer was key to getting the most out of the experience. I gained skills in interviewing, writing emails, organizing data, and drafting blogs. I can still recall everyone who helped me with projects, and I felt supported every step of the way.

What makes me most proud to be part of Planview today is that I can confidently say I’m part of an organization that cares. It cares about its employees, its customers, and the world around it. Planview has a ton of Employee Resource Groups, and I’m proud to be involved in many of them. The events, the day-to-day conversations, and the community remind me that I’m seen, understood, and valued.

Now that I’m full-time at Planview and serve as a buddy to the marketing interns, I try to be approachable and available – someone they can rely on. I work most closely with Madison, our product marketing intern, and I really appreciate that she feels comfortable enough to stop by my desk with questions – or even just to say hello. That comfort is a big win in my book.”
