Two Candidates You Can Believe In! Vote for Planview’s SXSW Sessions

Video: What is SXSW?Have you heard? SXSW panel picker voting has officially opened – and it’s time to vote for the content that you want to see and hear at SXSW 2017 in Austin, Texas. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the global event, check out this awesome video that truly echoes what SXSW is through the eyes of its attendees.

For us at Planview, SXSW is not only in our backyard, but it’s a must attend event that brings together people from all walks of life and industries. This year I had the opportunity to speak to numerous attendees at the SXSW Trade Show. I was so energized as I engaged with many attendees who wanted smarter ways to execute projects and manage resources (read the blog post: SXSW Interactive Trade Show Showcases Project Collaboration) in the midst of innovations in virtual reality, the Internet of Things and much more…

That’s why I am excited to announce that Planview has submitted two great presentation ideas featuring our own Patrick Tickle, Chief Product Officer, and Jason Morio, Product Manager for Projectplace. With their subject matter expertise, speaking skills, and quirky personalities, both will appeal to a wide range of SXSW attendees who manage projects, programs, and teams of any kind.

To build the agenda, SXSW has adopted the approach of – let the audience decide – and your vote matters. Community votes comprise 30% of the final decision, with the input of the SXSW Staff (30%) and Advisory Board (40%) making up the rest. Please help us get Jason and Patrick on the agenda so they can tell their stories.

Patrick’s Session: Avoid the Alignment Trap

Description: We’ve all been led to believe acting in a linear, orderly fashion – even in a dynamic and disorderly world – is what we should do. Alignment really means someone else has decided what we should do and we should line up in support of it. However, when it comes to execution, alignment is far from ideal. Organizations chase alignment with statements like “We need stronger processes.” Instead, we fall into the alignment trap with that way of thinking. The Harvard Business Review article, Why Strategy Execution Unravels – and What to Do About It, suggests seizing opportunities that support strategy. This is demonstrating execution at its finest by integrating strategy and execution.

Jason’s Session: Distance Makes the Teamwork Harder…Or Does It?

Description: In a flattening world and global economy, no longer are we constrained by geography, physical location and time zones. Working with global teams is becoming the new normal with over 70% of us interacting with external parties on a regular basis and almost a third working with team members in other geographies. Global workforces afford many business advantages, and technology plays a key part in keeping us connected, but what are the considerations for those working with global teams and how do you avoid the pitfalls? If you are among the growing majority of professionals who are working with teams around the world, you won’t want to miss this session.

To be a part of the voting process, visit the SXSW PanelPicker site, log in, or create an account (it’s quick and easy). If you created a SXSW account in 2013 or later, you will be able to use the same login and password. Each voter can vote once per proposal.
