We recently analyzed the value streams of 300+ leading U.S. enterprises across multiple industries to better understand how organizations are using Value Stream Integration to improve their software delivery process.
The research unearthed a number of fascinating insights, including the fact that 66 percent of enterprises are using 4-8 integration patterns, with the tester-developer alignment being the most popular (used by 70 percent). The popularity of this pattern highlights the ongoing challenge of improving the quality of software products at an enterprise-scale.
This challenge can be overcome by integrating development and test management tools such as Atlassian Jira (an Agile Planning tool) and Tricentis Tosca (a Test Management tool). Given that the alignment between developers and testers is such as critical issue within the software delivery process, it’s not surprising that this pattern is one of the most common that we see.
Integration helps our customers to identify and remediate defects faster for better product quality and to ensure all core requirements are covered by test cases to meet compliance obligations. In the below video, you learn how Tasktop can automatically flow defects between Jira, Tosca and all other tools used for planning, building and delivering software to eliminate manual tasks such as duplicate entry, status meetings and email.
Key benefits of integrating Atlassian Jira and Tricentis Tosca
- Synchronizes artifacts from end-to-end across the software delivery value stream, allowing information to flow freely between Tosca, Jira, Micro FocusALM, Polarian and many others
- Improves team collaboration by connecting Tosca to third party tools and allow artifacts to be synchronized across the lifecycle.
- Supports cross-tool traceability and reporting, particularly between requirements and defects – removing the need for manual processes and spreadsheets
- Synchronizes requirements from Requirement Management tools or user stories from Agile Planning tools to Tosca requirements
- Synchronizes failed tests from Tosca to defects in Agile tools
- Allows for automatic reporting of defects found during test execution from QA to development
Connecting an entire value stream can at first seem like an overwhelming task. But most leading organizations are connecting their value streams in an incremental way. Most organizations start by implementing one or two ‘integration patterns’ – such as Jira and Tosca – that allow them to connect part of their value stream. Over time they add more and more, with the ultimate goal of a fully integrated value stream.
