In his article \u201c<\/span>How to Turn a Failed Project into a Successful Program<\/span>\u201d, Shay Shargal noted that one of the reasons projects fail is the <\/span>\u201cPoor communication and coordination between various stakeholders of the project: Customers, Vendors, Suppliers, Managers, Resources and others.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

When communication breaks down and perceptions on roles and responsibilities are misaligned, the resulting way of work often becomes a \u201cblame game\u201d where escalations are \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d. In this article I would like to share with you the use of the RACIVS-matrix (also known as the <\/span>Responsibility Assignment Matrix<\/span><\/a>). Many project managers have heard of this project management technique, but its value is generally underestimated. Using RACIVS is an excellent way to describe the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders related to specific deliverables (or activities) and it will bring you one step further in preventing poor communication and coordination.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to apply it. List the deliverables, in the project plan section on deliverables, in a matrix. The RACIVS-elements should be filled in for each deliverable. This is what RACIVS stands for:<\/span><\/p>\n
