We\u2019re talking about disengaged employees (AKA zombies) who can mutate a high-performance workforce into a frightening zombie squad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyload\" alt=\"Avoid a disengaged 'zombie' workforce\" height=\"600\" data-src=\"https:\/\/media.planview.com\/clarizen\/wp-content\/upload\/2017\/01\/zombie.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, before dealing with the zombies who roam the halls, you need to know what and who to look for. Here are some common characteristics of disengaged employees:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They\u2019re going through the motions and phoning it in. <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/strategicconsulting\/163007\/state-american-workplace.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gallup<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has found that a whopping 70% of employees are disengaged (read: they\u2019re at risk of becoming, are currently being converted, or are presently card-carrying zombies)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They don\u2019t care about the enterprise\u2019s bottom-line. <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/businessjournal\/162953\/tackle-employees-stagnating-engagement.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gallup<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> estimates that disengaged employees\u00a0cost the U.S. $450-$550 billion in lost productivity each year; and a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.towerswatson.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WillisTowersWatson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> study of shareholder filings found that enterprises with poor employee engagement delivered a 21% return over a 5-year period, compared to 64% for enterprises with strong employee engagement\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They\u2019re not delivering a positive customer experience.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Research by <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.right.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right Management<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that 83% of disengaged employees admit they don\u2019t have good understand of how to meet customer needs; and a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvent.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cvent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> study found that customer retention rates plunge 18% when disengaged employees are in the mix<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They\u2019re creating more zombies.<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/strategicconsulting\/163007\/state-american-workplace.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gallup<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that nearly 18% of disengaged workers actively undermine what their engaged colleagues accomplish<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>They\u2019re freaking out top talent. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amanet.org\/news\/10648.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Management Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> identified a strong link between disengaged employees and high turnover; researcher <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hermangroup.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roger Herman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found 75% of employees who quit don\u2019t leave what they feel is a bad job\u2014they flee what they believe is a lousy boss<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>From Walking Dead to Working Inspired<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a closer look at your workforce reveals that you have a small, medium or large zombie squad roaming the halls: don\u2019t panic.
