In the past, we have primarily surveyed the Planview Planview IdeaPlace customer base. This year, we are opening it up to the public. customers.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Generating Ideas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>88% of companies use crowdsourced ideation software to generate and capture ideas<\/li>\n<li>More mature programs (&gt;3 years) are using crowdsourcing innovation tools at all stages of the lifecycle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Companies implement crowdsourcing to generate ideas and improve employee engagement.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Program Ownership<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>44% of program sponsors reside in their company\u2019s innovation function<\/li>\n<li>The other 56% are divided across a wide array of department<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: There is no single right way to launch and build a crowdsourcing program.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Employee Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The best ideas come from areas not directly connected to the problem<\/li>\n<li>Of those program managers who track it, 31% of ideas selection for action are submitted by someone outside the group or business unit sponsoring the challenge most, nearly every, or every time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Invite a diverse audience and those not necessarily close to the problem\/issue.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Running Challenges<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Average companies execute 10 crowdsourcing challenges\/ projects each year<\/li>\n<li>Innovation programs with more than 3 years of experience run 14-15 crowdsourcing challenges\/ projects each year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Once crowdsourcing takes hold, it becomes part of the fabric of the culture and how things get done.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>The Risks to Success<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>25% of respondents cited their #1 risk is lack of an overall program sponsor<\/li>\n<li>33% of respondents cited their #3 risk is lack <em>individual<\/em> project or challenge sponsor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Mitigate risks by designating teams to own and run challenges \u2013 from idea to implementation.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Idea and Implementation Tracking<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>56% identified insufficient follow up as the most frequently cited risk<\/li>\n<li>16% currently track end to end process from ideation to market launch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: The good news is 65% plan to track implementation going forward.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"header3\"><strong>Measuring Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>63% lack measurable results as the biggest risk to program success<\/li>\n<li>43% not tracking actionable ideas at all<\/li>\n<li>43% are tracking ROI on some or all actionable ideas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Ideations teams should include a tracking mechanism for measuring value from the start.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"header2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reporting_and_Follow_up\"><\/span><strong>Reporting and Follow up<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>75% report program results to senior levels of the organization<\/li>\n<li>18% share program results with all employees (missed opportunity to bring transparency to the process)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Takeaway: Provide reporting to all levels of the
