After several engaging discussions with internal and external thought leaders, we agreed that the term Community of Practice better represented the concept\u00a0we wanted to encourage: a growing, evolving, inclusive community\u00a0of people within an organization, committed to learning, experimenting, and continuously improving in their practice of Lean and Kanban.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In our experiences working with teams around the world, in different industries, with different goals, we\u2019ve found one thing to be true: Developing a Community of Practice\u00a0is essential for the sustainable adoption of not only our product, but of a continuously maturing Kanban initiative.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t a new concept; you might have played the role of \u201cCommunity of Practice\u201d in your team or department without realizing it. Often, the community\u00a0will form organically, out of a desire to sustainably implement and practice Lean and Kanban consistently across a team, department, or organization. Luckily, practicing Lean and Kanban with Planview AgilePlace is intuitive by design, so no technical expertise is required to be part of a Community of Practice. All that\u2019s required is a commitment to learning, growing, and sharing knowledge across your team in a clear, organized way. To determine who should be included, use these questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who on your team is responsible for work flowing in and out?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have a systems person who manages the different tools your team uses?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have a project lead who oversees the prioritization of work for a team?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you said yes to any of these roles, congratulations! You\u2019re a perfect candidate for your team\u2019s Community of Practice.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Responsibilities_of_the_Community_of_Practice\"><\/span>Responsibilities of the Community of Practice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Now that you know who should make up this group of super users, it\u2019s important to understand the responsibilities that come with membership. As a member of this super group, you\u2019ll need to be an administrator, board creator or manager in order to have the flexibility to control and manage boards and users. You can find more information on those user settings here:\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/success.planview.com\/Planview_LeanKit\/Account\/User_Administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\">user access roles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the type of access you\u2019ll have, some of the most important responsibilities of a Community of Practice\u00a0include educating new users about the system, creating and implementing procedures for using the product, and creating an internal support system. By internal support system, we mean some place users know they can go to to get simple questions answered, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How do I change my password?<\/li>\n<li>How do I get access to a board?<\/li>\n<li>How do I create a card?<\/li>\n<li>How can I edit the board layout?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Training_Opportunities\"><\/span>Training Opportunities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in becoming part of a Community of Practice, we highly recommend attending Planview AgilePlace and Lean\/Kanban training. In general, this depends on the complexity of your overall Planview AgilePlace environment (number of boards as an example), the number of users, deployment of advanced features and functionality.<\/p>\n<p>There will be some time and maintenance involved, especially on the front end. \u00a0We recommend to start small and start simple!
