Innovators Category: Cognizant

Award received by: Estela Lauricella-Thota, Sr. Director, Technology Transformation
As one of the world’s leading professional services companies, Cognizant helps clients modernize technology, reimagine processes, and transform experiences so they can stay ahead in a fast-changing world.
They have been a Planview® AdaptiveWork customer since 2021, leveraging the platform within the Technology Transformation Finance ePMO to help centralize operations, automate manual processes, and establish a single source of truth for responsive governance and strategic execution.
When Planview announced in 2024 that our new digital AI assistant, Planview Copilot, would be available for AdaptiveWork, Cognizant immediately signed up for our early access program. For the past eight months, they have been testing and refining the Copilot agents within AdaptiveWork and have provided us with critical feedback on how Copilot can best serve the project management function for project managers and portfolio managers alike.
With a focus on enhancing individual contributor productivity, gathering project summaries faster, and training their project managers at scale, Cognizant has shown incredible passion for how AI can help the project manager role.
Cognizant is truly on the forefront of how AI Applications can be applied to the Project Portfolio Management (PPM) discipline.
The Cognizant team has also demonstrated a deep understanding of the intrinsic nuances of AI business applications. By acknowledging the significant hurdles that AI technologies face regarding adoption, user confidence, and security, Cognizant was able to address those challenges head-on.
From the start, they had a clear goal to provide users with “clarity at speed.” They helped Planview develop our Copilot UI so users can easily drill into the data behind the assistant’s responses and dictate the length and depth of the responses depending on their needs.
Given that Cognizant has established a dedicated AI and analytics practice in-house to develop AI-driven solutions for their own customers, it’s not surprising that they have been so quick to adopt and apply Planview Copilot. Their enthusiastic support and generosity help to pave the way for other EPMOs to leverage AI technology effectively.
Enterprise Agile Planning Category: Corewell Health

Award received by: Bill Makela, Director, PMO; Jeremy Wolff, EPMO Operations Manager; Tania Bethea, VP, Enterprise Applications
Corewell Health was formed in 2022 as a result of an integration of Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health, making them the largest healthcare system and – along with their coverage division Priority Health – the largest employer in Michigan.
Their journey with Planview started in 2023 as their integrated Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) was tasked with driving process and technology standardization for multiple portfolios across both businesses.
Planview and Corewell Health began working together to deploy a single Enterprise Strategic Portfolio Management platform that enabled a more integrated and agile approach to planning using Planview Portfolios, Planview AgilePlace, and Planview Hub.
What stands out about Corewell Health’s initiative is the thorough and comprehensive approach they have taken. From the very beginning stages of our engagement, the team at Corewell Health showed incredible foresight.
They understood that to successfully deploy an end-to-end strategic portfolio management platform that leverages agile planning and delivery across the enterprise, they would need to consider not only the technology but also the people and processes involved.
The Digital Services Team at Corewell Health is a world-class group that evangelizes and supports agile methodologies and works closely with the business teams and enterprise system administrators to ensure that Planview is designed to meet the needs of the entire user base. They also take advantage of the continuous cloud updates with pre-defined processes in place to drive awareness, communication, and training for the users.
Corewell Health was instrumental in the reshaping of our weighted shortest job first (WSJF) calculation in AgilePlace and is helping us shape the future of our Agile Costing functionality by implementing Hub to connect Portfolios and AgilePlace.
Planview technologies are now deeply integrated within Corewell Health’s ecosystem, integrating into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other systems, getting a complete view of the plan, the resources, and most importantly, the impact on their strategy.
Today, Corewell Health manages their entire investment planning and delivery cycle within Planview, managing multiple ways of working from traditional projects to Agile projects leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®).
They have set up 14 Agile Release Trains (ARTs) across more than 2,000 users and have teams coordinating Program Increment (PI) planning days in AgilePlace. In 2025 alone, they have created 173 AgilePlace Boards and 9,000 cards.
Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) are utilized to support their “benefits realization” process to tie the work to strategic initiatives. Furthermore, their continuous planning cycle is a unified and streamlined intake process for new initiatives. This ensures that the most impactful work is taken on in accordance with proper governance and control.
Excellence in Execution Category: Dell Technologies

Award received by: Roger Guffey, Director, Engineering; Lisa Emerson, Transformation Portfolio Leader; Laura Phyllis, Director, ISG Strategy & Operations
Dell Technologies and Planview have been working together since 2019. Over the years, Planview usage has grown to include various areas of the enterprise.
Today, Dell has three major business groups utilizing Planview systems in various ways:
- Client Engineering
- Infrastructure Solutions
- Technology Services
While these three groups have their own unique uses of Planview, they share a common thread: to enable the teams to better execute their work. We have seen Dell apply a variety of means towards this end.
One example is how Dell has connected AgilePlace and Planview ProjectPlace with Portfolios to enable their teams to operate in either an agile or Waterfall way, depending on their requirements, while capturing the status of that work in Portfolios for increased visibility and governance. They are currently integrating Atlassian Jira with AgilePlace to ensure that not a single ounce of effort was left unaccounted for.
Another example is their long-term and highly detailed resource management initiative. This uses their official org structures, and applied granular role classifications to more accurately assign the best resources to each task, and better gauge capacity to deliver both project and non-project-based work. They leveraged an integration with Workday to achieve this and collaborated closely with Planview throughout the process to ensure success.
We also want to recognize the digitalization strategy they applied to their long-standing and robust product development model.
With a focus on improved portfolios analysis capabilities and improving cross-functional collaboration between teams, Dell demonstrates an unwavering focus on user experience.
Last but certainly not least, Dell will work throughout 2025 and into 2026 to consolidate their three separate instances of Planview into “Dell One.” The rationalization and consolidation initiative will harmonize these three groups’ portfolios to deliver exponentially greater visibility and value.
Excellence in Execution Category: Dallas Fort Worth Airport

Award received by: Marcie Grace Wehrman, IT Project Manager; Michelle Scott Harris, Sr. ITS Projects Manager
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport is one of the largest airports in the world. Their IT PMO is quite busy, with numerous multi-million-dollar projects currently being managed and many more in the queue to get started.
They have been using Sciforma (recently acquired by Planview) to help support this incredible workload, and we have seen an inspirational mindset from the DFW IT PMO, as they employ an “employee-centric model” to their work.
An “Employee-Centric PMO” prioritizes the people to deliver project success. Their employees are at the heart of project management decisions; they are autonomous and enabled; and the PMO leadership considers their well-being, strengths, and engagement preferences when assigning work and managing outcomes.
DFW’s healthy balance between people and processes has yielded noteworthy results, like reduced turnover, improved efficiency, enhanced creativity, and innovation. Happier and motivated employees lead to better results.
DFW’s IT PMO leaders have also embraced AI as a valuable asset, integrating it into the daily lives of the project managers so they can be more efficient with their time. Individual contributors are encouraged and incentivized to set aside dedicated time for training, education, and upskilling that syncs with their individual career goals. This has fostered a culture of feedback, collaboration, and investment in employee growth that is refreshing and inspiring.
Investment & Capacity Planning Category: DS Smith

Award received by: Samantha Conn, Head of EPMO
DS Smith, founded in 1940 and acquired by International Paper in 2025, has its EMEA headquarters situated in London. DS Smith provides innovative packaging solutions, paper products, and recycling services with a commitment to sustainability and a circular economy.
Planview began working with DS Smith in 2022 to implement an enterprise portfolio management solution across the organization. DS Smith recognized the need for a centralized system to improve workforce efficiency, enable more robust project planning, and facilitate deeper financial analysis capabilities.
With Planview, DS Smith can streamline processes, enhance visibility, and drive more informed decision-making. The centralized tool eliminates silos and data fragmentation, while enabling seamless collaboration and data sharing across departments and geographic locations.
From the beginning, the team at DS Smith showed incredible poise, amazing vision, and a clear strategy to ensure success.
They knew that a critical part of this initiative was going to be financial planning and analysis. They wanted to understand the true impact of project delays, which teams were working on each initiative, and the true value each project provides. As we all know, that can be difficult to do within one department, but DS Smith was shooting for a consolidated view across the whole organization.
We were impressed with how DS Smith’s Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management (EPPM) Planview Project Team collaborated with other major business stakeholders. We saw them engaging with the delivery community within each line of business to define the scoring mechanisms within our planning module to include sustainability metrics such as carbon, waste, water, and energy.
Furthermore, they involved the finance team to ensure the investment capacity planning process would support the business corporate planning and budget process, knowing that their input was not only critical to a successful design and implementation, but also would lead to greater value for the organization and higher user adoption.
As DS Smith begins to rollout Planview Investment Capacity Planning (ICP), they will be able to present their budget rankings and analysis against targets in real time. They will be able to run a variety of planning scenarios at the divisional, functional, regional, sub-regional, and site level — making investment decisions based on the sustainability metric, which is foundational to their culture.
To carry this early momentum forward, DS Smith has established a cross-departmental working group to refine, mature, and adjust these planning models over time. And in the coming months, we will continue working to support DS Smith as they use our ICP Module on a quarterly basis as part of their regular Strategic Portfolio Review process.
Strategic Portfolio Management Category: Sun Life

Award received by: David Atkinson, SVP, Digital Leadership & Strategy; Andrew Taylor, Director, VRO; Penny Sgromo, AVP, Global Transformation & Value Realization
Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada is a leading financial services organization, dedicated to helping people achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.
Sun Life has been recognized for numerous awards for GenAI, great places to work, and corporate citizenship. They provide insurance and investment products and services all around the world, but they started in Canada, which is also where the partnership with Planview began.
In 2020, they embarked on a digital transformation journey, moving from a project-centric approach to a focus on journeys, platforms, and products.
This strategic shift was driven by a commitment to become more client-centric, ensuring that the client’s voice is central to all Sun Life operations. This included shifting from a traditional PMO to a Value Realization Office (VRO), cultivating a value-focused approach, and breaking down the walls between IT and the business teams.
Embarking on a global roll-out of Planview is supporting Sun Life’s functional growth requirements, while enhancing their agile way of working.
In 2023, they began migrating four disparate Planview Daptiv instances into one instance of Portfolios. This essentially combined previously segmented bodies of work into a single enterprise-wide portfolio and provided Sun Life with critical new capabilities for Strategic Portfolio Management and Enterprise Agile Planning.
The foundational efforts to migrate thousands of Daptiv users and projects into Portfolios were completed by March 2024. Integrating AgilePlace with Jira provides a seamless environment for teams to plan, track, and visualize their work. Meanwhile, work is underway to integrate Planview Portfolios with other critical business applications, such as Workday and SAP.
Their third release is all about “strategic execution,” further enabling their project-to-product shift by creating a connected solution for all business groups to manage the flow of value from strategy to delivery. Sun Life began using more features such as Strategies and OKRs, Investment and Capacity Planning, Block funding and Agile costing, and capped it all off with enhanced dashboards and analytics through custom PowerBI reports.
The Sun Life VRO also built a best-in-class change management strategy to ensure that their transformation is effective.
They deployed a “train the trainer” approach, upskilling 13 global and 60 “change champions” to accelerate adoption. They held 30 Planview product demos and “Ask Us Anything” Sessions for the user base, created a Planview Resource Site for user self-service and filled it with process documentation, training materials, and instructional videos. Onboarding playbooks ensure alignment with processes and standards and guide global teams in preparing for Planview implementation.
