After engaging with hundreds of customers over the years, we\u2019ve identified a number of configurations to support the most <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.planview.com\/nine-tips-for-continuous-application-portfolio-management-improvement\/\">common APM challenges<\/a>. We\u2019ve used that experience, along with feedback from the <a title=\"What EA Software Was Co-Developed by Enterprise Architects?\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.planview.com\/troux-12-software-developed-by-enterprise-architects\/\">Inner Circle<\/a> of customers to standardize a set of APM practices. With the release of <a title=\"Troux 12\" href=\"https:\/\/www.planview.com\/products-solutions\/products\/planview-enterprise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Troux 12<\/a>, all customers can take advantage of what we\u2019ve learned in the field. Application portfolio managers can do so confidently, knowing business units that depend on those applications will be covered<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Usage_Tracking\"><\/span>Usage Tracking<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Challenge:<\/strong> Tracking the complexities of a single application instance used by multiple departments, for multiple functions and for different lengths of time<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution:<\/strong> Capturing all the ways an application is being used, including when its usage is planned, who will use it and its key transition dates, and presenting the information in simple graphical views<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefit:<\/strong> Avoiding unknown impacts that could create delays and project failures<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Application_Assessments\"><\/span>Application Assessments<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Challenge:<\/strong> Calculating key application metrics when data required is not immediately available, yet needing to assess applications to decide which to keep and retire<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution:<\/strong> Being able to place any number of simple numeric ranking evaluations (i.e., \u201cOn a scale of 1-5\u201d) on your applications and using them in Troux visualizations and analytics<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefit:<\/strong> Assessing your application portfolio immediately and making application retirement decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m excited for our users, because Planview\u2019s commitment to identifying best practices and making them available in real time results in a number of benefits to Troux customers and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planview.com\/products-solutions\/solutions\/technology-application-portfolio-management\/\">enterprise architecture<\/a> (EA) community at large such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faster implementations mean quicker time to value<\/li>\n<li>Standard features mean our customers, support staff and developers are all on the same page from the beginning, resulting in better product support<\/li>\n<li>The use of a common language across internal teams, external partners and user groups means better, overall communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, all this application information is only valuable if you can view and interact with the data in the ways needed.
