They\u2019ll say things like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our teams can\u2019t manage projects<\/li>\n<li>Despite Agile adoption, we are terrible at project delivery<\/li>\n<li>We can\u2019t estimate<\/li>\n<li>We need more project management training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Poor adoption by a handful of teams might be the result of a lack of training or tools \u2014 but if the majority of teams are struggling, it begs the question: Are teams to blame, or are they falling victim to a broken system?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Broken_System\"><\/span>A Broken System<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many organizations \u201cadopt Agile\u201d without properly evolving their portfolio and project management practices. Teams are asked to \u201cbe Agile\u201d in systems that are anything but, with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No effective work-intake process<\/li>\n<li>Weak management that says \u201cyes\u201d to everyone<\/li>\n<li>Defining projects that are way too large<\/li>\n<li>Inappropriate use of \u201cprojects\u201d<\/li>\n<li>No real workflow management system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Agility and speed are a result of a consistent, sustainable flow of value through the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Organizations and the teams within them cannot achieve\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=https:\/\/www.planview.com\/resources\/articles\/lkdc-business-flow\/ target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\">business flow<\/a>\u00a0without a disciplined approach to project management \u2014 which often requires a drastic shift in the way organizations operate.
