Brenda grew up near El Paso, while Jessica\u2019s family has roots across the border. Their shared connection is one small example of the many experiences, histories, and perspectives that come together at Planview every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to recognize the people who make up that community and the unique perspectives they bring to their work. Matthew, Jessica, Brenda, Joselyn, and Erika represent different backgrounds, generations, cultures, and career paths. His parents emigrated from El Salvador, and he grew up in Dallas in a blue-collar family. From his parents, he learned that everyone deserves the same respect, regardless of their title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou treat the CEO the same way you would treat the janitor. In my case, it\u2019s because my mom was a janitor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That perspective continues to guide the way Matthew approaches every interaction at Planview. To him, the way someone makes another person feel matters, whether that person is a senior executive or someone working behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joselyn works in product marketing and was raised in both Mexico and the United States. Her parents taught her to value education and make the most of the opportunities available to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou might hear a Hispanic parent say, \u2018I want you to study so you can be better off than I was.\u2019 I always valued education a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jessica, who works across customer marketing and customer advocacy, knows that message well. Her mother began college in Mexico but did not have the opportunity to finish, while her father attended the University of Texas as an international student. Jessica sees completing her education and building her career as a way of continuing the path her family helped create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-connection-is-part-of-the-culture\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Connection_is_part_of_the_culture\"><\/span>Connection is part of the culture<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The culture people create at work is often found in small moments: an offer to help, a conversation that is not transactional, or the feeling that there is always room for one more person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew remembers how ordinary connection felt growing up in El Salvador. People greeted one another as they passed by. If someone was eating, you might tell them to enjoy their meal. Those gestures did not need to lead to anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t all have to be transactional. When you approach professional relationships in that manner, you create a lot stronger bonds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That mindset has helped Matthew build relationships across Planview, including with people whose work has nothing to do with his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joselyn sees a similar instinct in her own family. Gatherings tend to grow as people arrive, and everyone has a place at the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s the type of spirit I try to bring with me professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Planview, Joselyn looks for ways to include people, start conversations, and help others feel comfortable. She said that sense of warmth was one reason she felt at home at Planview, first as an intern and later as a full-time employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Erika, a product marketing manager, brings the warmth and generosity of her culture to the way she builds relationships at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBuilding genuine relationships has been one of the most valuable things in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brenda brings that same spirit of support to her work as a business intelligence analyst. Working with teams across locations and time zones, she makes a point of being available when colleagues need help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you need my help, I\u2019m here. Just let me know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-different-perspectives-make-us-stronger\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Different_perspectives_make_us_stronger\"><\/span>Different perspectives make us stronger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A diverse workplace is not built by asking people to leave their differences at the door. It is built by creating space for people to recognize those differences as strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Erika said there were times earlier in her career when she was not sure how being Hispanic or bilingual would be viewed in a professional setting. Over time, she began to see those parts of her identity differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve learned to recognize that they are part of what makes my perspective valuable. That has made me more confident about speaking up, sharing my point of view, and not feeling like I need to change parts of myself to fit into a professional environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brenda also learned perseverance while adapting to a new country, language, and work environment. She credits her parents with teaching her to work hard and keep going when something feels difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNever give up, even if you feel like you cannot do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew also emphasizes the diversity within Hispanic and Latino communities. Latin America includes many countries, cultures, languages, and histories, and even within one country, regional identities and traditions can vary widely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe don\u2019t all fit the same mold or bucket. What applies to one Hispanic person might not necessarily apply to another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That perspective is important at Planview. Diversity is not about finding one story to represent everyone. It is about creating a workplace where many stories can exist, contribute, and shape what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-a-place-to-be-heard-and-grow\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_place_to_be_heard_and_grow\"><\/span>A place to be heard and grow<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People are more likely to bring their best ideas forward when they feel heard, trusted, and encouraged to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Joselyn expressed interest in working more directly with customers and developing her project management skills, her manager encouraged her to take on a larger role supporting customer speaker sessions for Planview\u2019s Connect conference. The opportunity helped her build new skills, contribute to an important project, and see how sharing what she wanted to learn could lead to new possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat\u2019s made it possible for me to bring my full self to work is knowing that what I say actually matters here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jessica encourages people to use their unique perspectives to their advantage. She has felt supported and valued at Planview as both an employee and a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Erika encourages prospective employees to bring their backgrounds with them instead of leaving parts of themselves at the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe experiences, language, culture, and perspective you bring are part of what makes you valuable.
