And those needs are usually defined by the people executives are accountable to \u2013\u2013 such as other executives, board members, and stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To meet executives\u2019 needs for information, Laaspere focused on three categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Amplification: <\/strong>What is going right and how can we prove it?<\/li><li><strong>Awareness: <\/strong>What is going wrong and what are we going to do to fix it?<\/li><li><strong>Action: <\/strong>Where can the executive step in to support?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, she provided purposeful, concise information for each of those categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cExecutives have a million things going on, and they need to know the highlights and the lowlights \u2013\u2013 they need the headlines.\u201d<\/p><cite>Kirsten Laaspere, Head of Strategic Governance &amp; Communication at Akamai<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Through adept use of IT portfolio management software, Laaspere and her team made it easy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/how-to-make-better-business-decisions\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">meet the information needs of Akamai executives<\/a>. She did it by making it easy for executives to tell a contextual data story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laaspere achieved this by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Identifying success measures and sharing them with the PMO.<\/li><li>Training the PMO to identify and constantly refine those success measures.<\/li><li>Promoting company highlights with clear storytelling and data-driven support.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A success measure might be something like reducing \u201ctime to complete\u201d from six hours to two hours, thus saving the organization 300+ hours per year \u2013\u2013 or the equivalent of saving $7,500 annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, she made sure Akamai\u2019s IT Portfolio management software documented the method of each success measure.
